CELLESTA AMNIOTIC MEMBRANE
- Cellesta Amniotic Membrane is a chorion-free, human amniotic membrane intended for use as a regenerative wound covering for the treatment of acute, chronic and surgically created wounds. Offered in both "Dry" and "Hydrated" formats, Cellesta provides a natural tissue matrix that retains a variety of innate biologic elements that support critical functions of the wound healing cascade. In addition, Cellesta provides a protective barrier to tissue regeneration and can serve as an adhesion barrier to preserve natural gliding capabilities between adjacent tissues. Harvested during live, elective Cesarian birth, the amniotic membrane is naturally preserved using gentle, non-thermal processing technology that ensures the product meet stringent FDA regulations regarding minimal tissue manipulation. The validated process is designed to minimize protein denaturing and preserve naturally occurring biological constituents such as extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, cytokines, angiogenic growth factors and anti-inflammatory proteins, all of which establish a regenerative platform for cellular signaling and new tissue formation during wound healing. In addition, amniotic membrane has been shown to be a source of pluripotent stem cells which can differentiate toward any cell type.
- Amniotic membrane has many characteristics that make it especially suited for complex wound healing applications, and has been shown to exhibit non-immunogenic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-microbial, pro-epithelialization and anti-scarring properties, as summarized below.
Cellesta Properties and Amniotic Membrane Potential Contribution to Wound Healing
1. Physical Covering/Anti-Adhesion - Potential Contribution provides a protective wound barrier to allow tissue regeneration and prevent adhesion to surrounding tissues.
2. Angiogenic Growth Factors- Processed to retain angiogenic growth factors such as PDGF and VEGF.
3. ECM Scaffold Components provides structural matric comprised of type I collagen and other fibrous proteins to support cell proliferation and tissue regeneration.
4. Non-Immunogenic-AM is 'immune-privileged' posing little or no risk of foreign body reaction.
5. Anti-Inflammatory AM contains anti-inflammatory properties which can limit fibrous tissue growth and scar tissue formation.
6. Anti-Microbial- AM can protect from and reduce microbial counts in the wound bed.
Amniotic membrane has had extensive clinical use in wound care applications, including diabetic neurovascular ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, post operative or post traumatic chronic wounds, and a variety of plastic surgery applications, and has been reported to be efficacious compared to standard treatments.
